Case Study
New Substations & High Voltage Cable Installations
£800,000
Bartholomew Street, Dalmarnock, Glasgow
SSE & Clyde Gateway
Project Description
These works formed part of an overall project of which we were contracted to carry out and were part of the Dalmarnock Infrastructure Development Project. This section of works involved the excavation and laying of approximately 225m of double circuit High Voltage Cables and the construction of two Sub-Station Bases for this part of the new development.
The Challenge
We were aware from the onset that the area we would be required to excavate on was the site of old gas works. We were aware that there could be a risk of soil contamination which we could expose whilst excavating. This area also included old buildings that had previously been demolished and their foundations covered over.
Our Solution
The locations of the new Sub-Stations and cable routes were plotted on the site. The cables were laid and Sub-Station bases were constructed to the required levels for the new site as required.
Outcome
The High Voltage cables were successfully installed and the Sub-Station bases were formed to allow the Transformers and Kiosks to be installed in time to satisfy the requirements of the client which allowed the further development of the site to progress as planned.
